Pastel Artist Mitch Hurst spent countless barefoot days in his youth on Florida’s intracoastal waterway in Palm Beach County. He developed a passion for the raw beauty of the tropics.
On a 2018 trip he took a pastel painting workshop in Croatia and quickly grew to love the medium. “Pastels recreate not just the rich colors and wide- ranging values of nature, but also the complex textures of the flora, land, sky and sea.”
In 2022, Mitch moved to the Big Island with his wife Kristen and cat Gino to soak in the delightful Hawaii lifestyle and enjoy each day. “Landscape painting provides a fantastic portal for falling into the current moment. It forces one to focus on simply observing and then finessing your materials to strive and recreate the essence of the things that move you.”
